ALL DRESSED UP

Live long enough and the event you’ve attended most often in life will be a funeral.  The emotions we feel while attending one give a clue to what was special about the person.  When that person is a close family member, finding the words can be difficult.  Then, a memory will suffice.

ALL DRESSED UP

She loved to see us all dressed up,

With necks scrubbed clean, no sand in our cuffs.

She’d walk us to church with purpose and pride,

Make us match her stride for stride.

She’d march us in as far as she could,

Watching so we understood.

She’d teach us things we didn’t know,

Telling later, first she’d show.

She left things out we didn’t need.

What she set was starter seed.

She’s gone now, we’ll have to wait.

Someday we’ll meet at the gate.

We’re here today to laugh and cry.

All dressed up to say “Goodbye”.
