ARE YOUR DUCKS IN A ROWBOAT?
Thanksgiving is just around the corner and the world of recipes is taking center stage. Whether in the kitchen or the science lab, we all love the formulated outcome. With the right ingredients, put together just so and cooked for a prescribed time and temperature – the future is predictable.
And repeatable! Anyone can do it. Scale it up. Everybody can have a ticket to success. It’s not hard to imagine Christmas, when it’s only a month away. Every year it works the same. Following the rules to achieve a desirable outcome becomes the rule and pretty soon we are convinced – we even make the rules.
Happy New Year! It’s day one and we’re all on the same page, just in time for the football game. This rosy picture can be had by anyone who has their ducks in a row, right? What’s that? Recalculating?? Updating??? Better slow down. Suddenly the GPS has us in the middle of nowhere.
Apparently, one of the ingredients was tainted and the oven temp gauge is a bit off. Whoever heard of transfats anyway? If it turns out that our ducks aren’t all in a row, we can end up feeling like the guy who forgot to duck. In that case, grab an oar. The duck row just turned into a rowboat.
